About
Located along the banks of the Russian River, the Allen Vineyard’s terroir is uniquely different than our neighboring vineyards. Found in the Middle Reach of the Russian River Valley appellation, vineyards in this region are defined by warm days and cool nights and are highly influenced by the microclimate given by the Russian River.
Situated between the Flax Vineyard and the iconic Rochioli Vineyard, the Allen Vineyard stands out for its individuality. Despite being adjacent of these esteemed neighbors, our wines showcase a remarkable and distinct personality.

What makes the Allen Vineyard distinct is the presence of “The Combe”, a natural geographic feature that embodies the quintessential nature of the Allen fruit. This avenue of cold air originates from the Russian River, which in turn, is influenced by the cool Pacific Ocean breezes. The Combe gently meanders through our property, creating a microclimate within a microclimate that is integral to the uniqueness of our wines.
This feature allows fog and cold air to sit in our vineyard blocks furthest from the river and doesn’t burn off until the late morning. It allows our grapes to retain a higher level of natural acidity and contributes to the development of delicate flavors and structural complexity of our wines. The result is a collection of flavors that beautifully reflect the terroir of Allen Vineyard.
